Special Education Needs

Any child may experience a special need in their learning or their behaviour. Children who have found lessons or work difficult can soon lose confidence and develop low self esteem. This can make the problem worse. Parents are encouraged to inform the school quickly if they have any concerns about their child.

The Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SEN co) reviews the progress of all pupils every term with the class teacher. If there is a problem, then an Individual Education Plan (IEP) will be set up to support the achievement of the pupil(s) concerned. These plans are reviewed with parents at termly meetings.

St Paul's prides itself on ensuring every pupil is supported well in school. The school has many staff employed to support students in class and sets up projects with other schools and agencies to provide as much specialist support as possible.

Children with English as an Additional language (EAL)

Some children at St Paul's are learning English as an additional language. Their progress is tracked by the EAL coordinator every term. Programmes of support are put in place for those children who are at the early stages of learning English.
