Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

The first phase in our school is the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) where the learning that starts at home is promoted and extended. Children aged 3-5 learn together in a integrated cross phase class. The learning environment is bright, spacious and inviting and children are able to learn in a variety of ways in the attractive and engaging outside environment as well as in the bespoke inside learning spaces.

The unit opened in June 2010 and was designed to encourage young learners to explore, engage and seek their own lines of enquiry. The clever use of space means that children are able to make choices about how and where they learn. Staff utilise a range of small and large spaces along with an integrated kitchen area for science and cooking,  to interact with children and encourage children to learn with each other.

The Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum is organised into 6 areas of learning:
  • Personal, Social & Emotional Development
  • Communication, Language & Literacy
  • Problem Solving, Reasoning & Numeracy
  • Knowledge & understanding of the World
  • Creative Development
  • Physical Development

Children's learning is assessed as part of the learning that takes place in EYFS. We also welcome parents' observations regarding the skills that are learned. Children's progress is tracked regularly and areas for further development are identified. A profile of learning is kept for each child to demonstrate their learning journey and the outcomes that they have achieved.
