Key Stage 2
The final phase in our school is Key Stage Two (KS2) where children aged 7-11 years learn together in Years 3 to 6. The learning environments in these classes encourage children to become more autonomous, imaginative and ready to take a more self managed approach to their learning. Children begin to learn the skills that they will need when they move on to secondary education and the attributes they will require for adult life.
The Key Stage Two Curriculum is organised into subjects:
- Religious Education
- English
- Mathematics
- Science
- Information Technology
- Modern Foreign Languages (French)
- Design Technology
- History
- Geography
- Art
- Music
- Physical Education
- Personal Social Health Education
A thematic curriculum continues through this key stage to enable children to make links in their learning and understanding how new learning can occur from previous knowledge and understanding. Children are also taught non-curricular skills such as creativity, respect, communication and self belief and are encourage to reflect on their own strengths and areas needing development and respond to advice an support.
Children’s learning is assessed and marked to identify strengths and areas for development; children are also encouraged to review their own learning and assess their own progress. Children have class, group or individual targets to support them in their progress and acquisition of skills in all subjects and conferencing to support learning is introduced. Children’s progress is tracked regularly and interventions for children who need support in their learning are targeted.
