Children in the Early Years Foundation Stage and Key Stage One (as well as children in Key Stage Two who need reading, phonics and spelling support) have daily phonics lessons which follow the DfES guidance 'Letters and Sounds' which can be downloaded at: https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/190599/Letters_and_Sounds_-_DFES-00281-2007.pdf
A programme is in place which delivers the necessary skills needed in order to learn to read and spell. Opportunities to apply phonic strategies to writing are integral to these sessions. Regular assessment to check children's progress and high quality interventions to tackle any difficulties are used to ensure that children make excellent progress throughout phases 1-6 of the phonics programme.
Our home learning programme PHAD encourages children to practise their phonics acquisition at home and helps parents and carers to understand these important building blocks in helping their child to become a reader.
